At what hp are you starting to push the limits of a Bravo 1 drive? Just wondering at what hp would you start to worry about blowing a Bravo 1 drive apart. I am talking about a stock one with 1.5:1 gears in it. Thanks for your knowledge/experience.

I have heard anything north of 500 PSHP is not a good idea. I'm no expert though!

You dont want to push over 450hp. if your going to be pushing 500 I would suggest an XZ. 750+ I would start thinking about an XR.
Call Marc Berman at Bam Marine... He is very good and has the best prices... I just got a XR ($6500) and added a sportmaster gearcase for $9200 total.

I was curious...a buddy just put a whipple on (625hp) with a Bravo 1. How long do you think it will last?

It definitely depends on the boat that it's in and how it's driven. I know of a 22 Daytona with nearly 1000hp and a stock Bravo I that's been alive for many seasons. Boat runs north of 120... Then again a stock Bravo on a 30' V and ham fisted driver would be a different story. I made it through a season with 760hp in the 23 Cheetah and didn't hurt the drive. If your friend is careful he may get many years of use at 625hp.

Dog is right.... U can make just about anything work, but if you want to really utilize the performance of your boat/hp, I would advise to have enough drive...
why buy a dragster to putt and cruise?

I has over 250 hrs on my 25 Advantage v-bottom. 500 HP with Whipple for about 625 ponies. Not one drive problem. Tell him not to go drag racing and he'll be fine.

Buddy of mine has a older(non-step bottom)27ft. Fountain that is built like a tank(i.e.Heavy).
For the past 5 yrs. he has run a 750+hp. blower motor.
The thing has a stock bravo1 that has never been apart, original bearings,shafts,etc...
...blown up 3 motors but not a single drive issue.
He even ran the last AHBA poker run, started with the second group and ran pretty hard the whole run
    Go figure.
