I left for Great Lakes RTC back on Dec. 14th 1982. Coming from SoCal, that was quite an eye opener!! It was freakin COLD and ICY.
That was quite an experience, I still remember most of the people I met there and have good memories of that time of my life even though some of it was rough.
Went on to Dam Neck Va. for Operations Specialist 'A' school, and then to San Diego for NTDS 'C' school.
Joined the fleet on the DD973 USS John Young.
I'm sure your Son will do ok. It's really all about attitude!
    Good luck, keep us posted!

I was at NTC Great Lakes from July through December 1985. What a pit! I agree, it is all about attitude.

Well I joined the Navy in Chicago a couple of years back.
I told them I wanted to go to Orlando for basic or I was not signing the papers.
Weather was much better in Florida.

I would not see why not.
Had one in Sand Diego also back then.
I was eventually stationed at Miramar.
