I need some help deciding what to do . . .
I own an '89 Hallet with the carb'd 454 mag and I want some more speed. I've been looking at exhaust systems, but they are not cheap and people seem to have mixed results with them. I am also considering the Stage I ProCharger. Any opinions on this?
Right now I'm running high 50s to low 60s with my 19 pitch 3-blade at 5500 rpm.
I'd like to see close to 70 if possible without breaking the bank.

Sounds like your going to need a Procharger.
It's the only way I see adding 10 MPH to your setup Don.
I got mine thru a Guy in MA, C & B Marine, He sold it to me for $1000.oo cheeper than anyone I called.
He does it as a side business. and he's been giving deals to everyone. Nice guy.

Be sure to check out the Whipple Supercharger
before doing anything. I installed a pair on my 454 MPI's last spring and they look and run super. I picked up 12.6 mph on an 8000 pound poat, not bad.

I Did my first super charger with the whipple Charger. I was very impressed. The boat performed great. In this one I was talked into a ProCharger system. And I have to tell you, at first I didn't have much confidents in it, but after reading all the write ups and talking to Engine builders who do both whipple and prochargers, I went with the procharger, and I must say. It is the best system I ever used. It takes less engine HP to run, and the intake air temperatures are much lower. A do it yourselfer can install one in just a few hours. To top it off it comes with a 3 year warrantee. Don't get me wrong , The whipple is a nice system. But the Procharger, I found, was easier to install, and I have 343 hrs on my 502 EFI with no problems yet.

Lots of people seem to like the whipples, but I have had pretty bad experiences with them. For example:
1) My Dad runs one on his 454 Suburban. The thing ran like crap on the program that was supplied, and we were told by Whipple that they would void the warrenty if we modified their program in any way! To top it off, the POS siezed a month ago and not only did they charge me a $1200 deposit before they would send me a replacement while they checked out the old one, but now they haven't retunred my calls and have not sent me my $1200 deposit back!
2) My 350 powered, Vortec blown Denali (weighs 6043lbs) has repeatedly stompped a mudhole in the Suburban.
Conclusion: Whipple is an iffy product at best!
