    I found a block with casting # DOTE-AB 5
    Was wanting to know if my 460 crank,rods,and pistons would work with block.
    Or what would I have to do to make it work,the guy that has it said he thought it was 429 commercial truck eng.

    Craig
    1970 truck engine,
    D=deade, which is 70-79
    0 = year of the decade, 1970
    T = truck
    E = engine (duh)
    AB is the engineering change level
    Not sure what the 5 indicates

    Matt, my above post is really an inside joke between me and Blown.
    What you may have there is a commercial big truck 429 crank. They are forged but you are correct that they are different and require machining to make work.
    The truth is that by today's standards, there are better options of forged cranks. The big truck forged 429 crank is not made of 4340 chromoly steel, nor is it correctly configured for your application unless some machining is done to the crank snout. And so while it can be made to work, a better, stronger forged crankshaft(s) can be purchased over the shelf for less time and hassle.
    It's just that if you're an OEM factory Ford nut like me or Blown472, it's kinda cool to have one laying around.
    In all seriousness, your factory 460 crank can handle 700 horsepower no problem. And it's ready to go, so use it. Also, with some strengthening it can handle much, much more power than that. I know personally a machinist/car builder that uses factory cast 429/460 block, crank and heads and gets around 2000HP reliably with no problems. Makes passes all day without inspection teardowns between runs. So trust your stock stuff.
    And if you yourself can afford to build a 1000+HP engine, you can certainly afford to buy a quality 4340 forged crankshaft for piece of mind, if that's what you want.
    But if the spare 429 truck crank is what we think it is, be a good samaritan and put it in the hands of a BBF mechanical wing-nut where it can be tinkered and tweeked with and spend lots of money on configuring, just because we don't give a ****...

    That pretty much sums it up, long winters here just to sit around and play the what if game.
    You got any picks of that 2000 hp monster??
