I would bring an anchor. Yes there are sandy beaches to park on, but if you want to check out the Sand Bar you'll probably need to have the anchor. Spring break gets pretty busy and dry Sand Bar land becomes scarce at about 11:00 in the morning.
As far as campgrounds, I've only stayed at Havasu Landing. It's a cool place with showers/launch ramp/casino and restaraunt. It's on the California side of the lake, but there's a ferry that goes back and forth to LHC every hour or so. I think they have a web page if you want to check it out.
