Thread: How to keep that SS prop shiny????

Just wondering what you guys use to get that Havasu film from the water off your SS props? I was out there for 4 days, boat in the water the whole time and when I pulled it out my nice new shiny SS prop was all coated with a film. I tried a bunch of different cleaners on it, but nothing worked real easy. Any tips or suggestions on what to use to clean it? Thanks in advance.

I use a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water and a little elbow grease. It gets the film off and doesn't stain the prop like some of the chemicals will (zap, lime away etc.)

Try the West Marine "green" Hull Cleaner. Works pretty good.

Go to the grocery store or Costco and buy 2-3 gallons of "El Cheapo" white vinegar. Pour it in a five gallon bucket and set your prop in it. Let it soak over night. The next day all of that hard water crud will literally wipe off. Voila!!! Bright n' shiny again. Pour the vinegar back into the bottles and save it for the next time. Total cost for a dozen prop cleanings...$4-5 max, and it comes with my $$$ back guarantee. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/cool.gif

I use a product called "Ducky". Spray on, let it sit for 5 minutes then wipe off (use a little elbow grease too). After that I tried Meguires #26 wax on the prop. Took it to Mojave over the four day weekend and it looks fantastic. Keeps the film off completely. And just maybe helped it perform a little better.

I've always heard to NOT wax a prop. Wax on the prop = slippery prop (slip). More slip = less speed.

Lime-Away and a sponge will take it off in seconds. If you have a cut on your hands, use rubber gloves or it will burn.

Takes spots, grease, exhaust gunk, etc. off, no elbo grease!

50/50 VENEGAR AND WATER IN A BUCKET! SAME AS LIME AWAY OR JUST DUCKY WITHOUT THE SMELL GOOD STUFF ADDED AND A LOT LESS EXPENSIVE.
