How do you get that?
If any of you get a chance to upgrade to fiber optic internet.....
All I can say is "DANG"
I am getting 8.6 Mbps up and downloading.
Thats about 5 times t-1 speed, for the price of cable.
How do you get that?
There is 1 nor cal company that just began offering it to residential customers.....they just finished laying the fiber to the power poles in a 10,000 user footprint.
No current service in So Cal that I am aware of.
It better make it south because I can't go back to SLOW dsl or cable when i move.

Impressive, what's the cost?
JBR - Its $50 per month, no contracts or equipment.
The company runs fiber from the pole to your house, and installs an external box.
From that, they run to a cat 5 outlet in the house, which you connect to directly. No modems.
They also offer fiber phone and digital cable.
I got the phone service (25 per month) and passed on the cable. I will post a photo of the inside phone equipment because its interesting.

I would like to see it, I do HSD work myself so these things are of interest to me.
Mike is this the one ?
broadband (http://www.surewestbroadband.com/)
Mine is at: download speed of 2889 kbps and upload of 252 kbps.
Wish that fiber optic was available here! Sounds like my ticket for everyhting. I already have everything through my cable company but speed and even more savings is my gig. Plus I just dig technology.
I`m pretty cool with cable but if I can change my two second wait to a 1/2 for 15$ more a month. lets see here I click the mouse about 250 times a day, so 250 times 30 for the month = 7500. Now times a two second wait = 15000 seconds of waiting a month, now if I divide that by a 1/4 for fiberoptic connection. I spend 3750 seconds a month in waiting time.
Now! Can 1 fit a good masterbaition session or 2 in in the remaining time of 11250 seconds if I was to store my saved time?
OK, as promised:

That is the fiber gateway on the right, and its own power source on the left. So, the fiber runs directly from the outside box to that point.
The gateway allows the use of traditional phone wiring. Otherwise, they want more $$$ to install fiber jacks in the house.
One other cool aspect is that there's no modem, software, or any other equipment. Again, from the box, the fiber is run directly to a cat-5 outlet somewhere in your home.
The cat5 goes to your network card....They boast that you get full speed with a router and wireless card.
