I have a 29' Essex Alandra 5300lbs v-bottom. My x# is 6.50" to 6.75". The boat comes on plane quick with little or no bow rise. Will only take a little + trim. Is the outdrive set to low. I think the boat is slow with the HP500efi 60-61mph with bravo 1 22p. I never bump the rev- limiter. Help!!!
    Thanks, Mike

    Mike,
I'm not an expert, but I have a similar boat to yours in size, weight, and power. My 29' Shockwave is listed to weigh approx 5500 lbs. I have a stock HP500EFI and a stock 24 pitch Bravo1 prop. My top speed is in the 65-68MPH range and I am close to the rev limiter with this prop, With a 22" prop I think I would be all over the rev limiter.....What does Essex say about this? I've never dealt with them, but have heard good feedback about them and their boats. Is the performance you are getting typical for this boat and power??

You need a bigger prop. That would make a difference, then play with the X if you are not happy.

Why a bigger prop, if he's not hitting the limiter? I would try a smaller prop, so he can get more use out of the rpm range.
    Cola,
What kind of RPM's are you seeing at WOT and what size prop are you currently running? My prior boat was a 30' V which weighed in at 6800 pounds with a HP500EFI. I ran a 24 pitch merc 4 balde and saw 68 mph during the summer at Havasu at approx 5100 rpm.

I am spinning the Bravo 1 22 pitch to about 5000 + . I tried a new out of the box 24 pitch, I liked it @ cruise speeds but would only let the RPM's run up to 4800 . That is still with in the suggested RPM range, but on the low side. Didn't change the top end speed at all.
    Thanks, Mike

    Mike(Cola),
Are you sure that X dimension # is correct? How did you come up with that #? It sounds VERY LOW! Where does Essex think it should be?

GT I used a long straight edge off the bottom of hull to center line of the prpo shaft. The hull has no steps, just a notch in the delta pad. maybe 5' long or so. Steve @ Paul Paff said maybe 3.5" ????
I come up with the 6.50" to 6.75".
    Thanks, Mike

I'm not sure Essex knows what the "X" dimension should be on their hulls. On my boat - 21' Sterling - the engine can't be raised any higher as it is already flush with the underside of the hatch. The Essex boats don't ever seem to be as fast as comparable competitor brands with the same power. This is NOT from empirical data but observed data that has been published.
    Just a comment.
