Who knows the Holman&Moody story?

We (Miller Boats) religously used Holman & Moody fords from 1962 - 1968 or there abouts. Started with the 406 then the 427 in 63 or 64. Great motors, the 406 stock pushed our 18' flat to 89 mph and the 427 medium riser to 97 mph. Very hard to beat these motors, they were perfect for 18' flats. We would rig them with the small port water cooled manifolds, 18 percent gears, and a 12x16 2 blade. RPMs would max out at about 6700. Absolute great pull all the way through. I personally drove a few of them.
We probably used at least 100 of them in that time frame.
After that, the Shelby 428 cid ford was available, we tried one and it was very very disapointing. We then switched to the big block chevys.

I appreciate knowing more about Aero Marine. It fills that information void about them that I had. If I need any more 'stuff' I'll holler.
John Miller- those specs for an FE flatbottom were good to know, and thats some very interesting information about what was behind your changing to Chevrolet. Woulda thought the 428 would have been just as satisfactory as the FE, but this isn't the first time I've read that. Seems the jetters weren't too fond of it either, until they began sorting them out.
ITLLFLI, I've always been an early Donzi admirer- there are several in this area of NC, mostly early Ford, too. I'll go lurk on those 2 sites you mentioned. Thanks!
