150hp at 5600rpm, 5800rpm red line. Call Kevin over at R&R Prop Shop (http://www.randrpropshop.com) for some recommendations on propping your setup. 702-564-7502. Great guy!

thanks for the info some told me it was a 220 hp how can i tell

I ran the serial number on http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com and it comes back as a XR4, which is the 150hp 2.4.
-
I don't think they made the XR-4 in 87 and the XR-4 is a carbed engine. It sounds like a 220 XRi to me.
-
The word is those were a bit optimistically rated.
But you how words can be...
-
Hey Tom, lookey there...you were right. I reran the serial and it did come up as XRi, not XR4. You probably got it.
-
thank you tom and keith for looking it up. is the red line the same ? dont want to over rev. is it a good motor ? new to outboards .my kids race motocross and i love the sound and power of the 2strokes
-
Mercury rated the redline at 5800 on most everything, but you can comfortably rev it well into the 6k's, even higher with some minor mods. The early ecu's go full rich at 6500, so you can't go much past there.
