Many years ago, before fertilizer was made up of various chemical compounds, manure was shipped all over the world to users and farmers. Bales of dried manure were packed into the holds of sailing ships for delivery across the oceans. However, if any water got in the reaction of the wet manure produced methane gas. If an open flame or torch were present, it would blow the ship to bits.
Therefore, manure was loaded higher up on the ship and tagged with "Ship High In Transit"
Thats my trivia for the day, see you at Parker...

You guys might want to check out the following: http://www.snopes.com/language/acronyms/shit.asp
Here's some info from the site: "The word shit entered modern English language derived from the Old English nouns scite and the Middle Low German schite, both meaning "dung," and the Old English noun scitte, meaning "diarrhea." Our most treasured cuss word has been with us a long time, showing up in written works both as a noun and as a verb as far back as the 14th century. "
