    A=Carrera 20.5 Elite 454CI/333HP with a jet and 40 gallon tank.
    B=Magic 28' Deckboat 496 HO. 125 gallon tank.
    What will the fuel consumption be like with the new boat. I know that the Merc I/O is much more efficient. Just wondering what to expect as far as fuel consumption with the Magic...Mike

    You are going to think the new gauge is broken and stuck on full

    With boats like that will you care? I have a 21" Spectra and a motorhome to tow with that get 8mpg on a good day. If I asked myself that I might as well get rid of the toys.

    It is just one of the catch 22's of the toys.:eek!:

    Not so much worried about the money...I am just wondering how many times I will have to fill up on the week long trips. I don't like marina gas.

    Our 27 Dana 496/HO holds 90 gallons, we run her all weekend on a tank and still have a 1/4 left. You should do fine on a long trip.

    What impeller is in the jet and how fast would you cruise in the jet? If the boat has a taller impeller and you cruised in the 3300-3600 rpm range, I don't think you would notice much of a difference in fuel consumption.
    However, the cat will cruise at a higher speed at the same RPM and you would get from point to point much faster!

    Too many variables to make a comparison. How hard you are driving, how many people are in the 28, etc.
    I have a 28 with 96 gallons of gas and I can go a weekend of cruising with 6 with no fill up. I can also go through two tanks playing with skiers and wakeboarding and speed runs.

    I'm burning about 10 gals an hour on the 26' with 496HO, the old boat went through 32 or more in a weekend this one about doubles that.

    I have a Carrera 202 XR with a jet. If you are just cruising along at 3500 rpm the mileage is pretty good. You can run all weekend on the 40 gallon total in the two tanks. When you hot rod around or tow wakeboarders the consumption goes up but I rarely use more than 1 tank a day. We will board in the morning, cruise up to a drinking spot and hang out then once we are liquored up we go out and cruise some more...LOL J/K
    I don't have much experience with the deckboat, but I am sure you will use less fuel if you are cruising.
    Remember 1/3 less throttle equals 1/2 less fuel used....

    Thanks for the replies. I usually run a comfortable cruising speed with 2-4 people, no towing skiers or boarders. I was just trying to get a general comparison betwwen the two, given the same style of driving. I am thinking 125 gallons should last me about 5 days, usually the max time we are out on one trip. Mike
