I've been searching around but i cant seam to find anything. I'm looking for a set of forged .040 over pistons for a 454. I'm trying to yeild around 10:1 compression with a 118cc head.

    Check TRW or Speed Pro.
I think both offer .040 as a standard bore size.

    Try Summit. TRW's website sucks.
    Here's a link (http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...main.asp&l=TRW)

at summitracing i only found these in .040

Thoughs, opinions? I couldnt find a compression ratio or the piston volume. At this point i probably should just take the block back in a spend the money to bore it over to .060.

The link on the last piston (Keith Black) did not list what the dome height was. Roughly w/ a 118 cc combustion chamber, the second link piston listed w/ a .100 dome height, will give you a 9.5-10.25 :1 compression ratio. If the dome cc was listed you could get a lot more accurate. A flat top is going to be down in the 8-8.5 :1 range.

Also the keith black ones (the last link) has all kinds of extra info that the others did have including installation, warings, suggested parts and emisions.
ATM, the keith black one out of those 3 get me the closest to my goal of 10:1.
Seams like guys around here recommend JE/SRP and TRW pistons all the time. I dont hear much talk about keith black.
Rex: i emailed that trw.com site asking if they had somthing for my app. maybe they will reply

    TRW P/N# H581CP40 ($274/set)
    10.22:1 W/119cc chambers. Coated skirts .340 dome; 2 rel
    OR
    H110CP40
    lightweight/coated skirt/CNC , 10.21 W/119cc , .340 dome; 2 rel
It's all in knowing where to look, several more there if you want to look for yourself.
www.flatlanderracing.com >> pistons >> TRW pistons >> Forged pistons >> Cheverolet Pistons >> Cheverolet Big Block Pistons >> Cheverolet 454 Pistons .... And VOILA!
Then you can go back to Summit plug in the part # in their part search box so you can see their version of the specs.
EDIT: I just remembered that "H" part #'s are Hyperutetic. "L" parts are forged. Both of those listed above aren't exactly what your wanting but at least I got close.

Can somebody explain the diffrence between forged, Hyperutetic and why one is better than the other? A lot of people have recommended forged pistons to me.
Also i noticed that on that site that hyperutetic are under the forged section but then it says H for hyperutetic and L for forged. Got me confused there

Hyperutectic pistons are still a cast piston. They use a high silicon content which is supposed to control expansion rates, etc. A forged piston is still a better way to go in a heavy load high rpm environment IMHO. We used a set of SRP pistons last year that combined w/ a 118cc head, a decked block w/ a zero height and a Fel Pro gasket resulted in a 10.6:1 ratio. The pistons carried a 1/16, 1/16, 3/16 ring package which does produce a little less drag than the 5/64 combo.
