This may have been addressed but i couldn't find it. Since the noice law is a CA deal, does it apply to boats registered in AZ?
I assume it is like front windows tint, you won't get a (fix-it) ticket for it in CA if your car is registered to AZ where it is legal.
IT would seem as though that wouldbe the case for the noise law. Can some one shed some light on this?
    thanks

RD is right on where it applies....all CA waters (including all common rivers and lakes) as well as the ocean offshore within 1 mile of CA shore. Registration means nothing in this case - only use in the designated CA waters.

I thought I would mention that there are no noise laws where we are right now...
I can run wide open exhaust and the only people that get pissed at me are the fishernman trying to have a quiet morning on the lake

Like everybody above said the state your boat is registered in does not matter.
And for your information if you are driving in California and something on your car does not comply with state law, such as window tint, you can get a ticket. It does matter if you have AZ plates on the car.

So true....my Dad got pulled over in CA (has residences in AZ and CA), the vehicle had AZ plates and they gave him a fix-it ticket for his tinted windows.

What driver's license did he provide the cop? AZ or CA. If CA then you are presumed to be a CA resident and the vehicle should have been ticketed for incorrect registration as well. AZ he should have been able to walk...or so I thought.
So...is this true...say you're an out-of-state resident travelling into CA for a vacation...does you're vehicle have to meet CA laws on cosmetic things such as front license plates and window tint? Certainly it won't meet CA smog rules - how does that differ?

I don't think you can consider it a "tax" as it cost me nothing to "fix" my "forward tint" when I was stopped. Had to peel it and show it to a CHP officer. My cost was simply to replace the tint after the "fix it" ticket was signed off.
