I am going to do head gaskets in the next couple of weeks, so it's a good time to replace the stock valve springs. Which brand should I use? Teague recommends Comp. 929-16 springs and Crane 99961 retainers. Can you get Isky springs for this application? Any other thoughts. Keeping stock cam and lifters at this point, just want to do some preventative maintenance.

Check out Isky 8005 Plus valve springs.

Thanks! Pfaff sells them for $120. Is that per head or what? Lots cheaper than the "tool room" series...hope this isn't a "get what you pay for" scenario.

Furthur checking shows the 8005- are $118 and the 8005-sp are $ 138 and the 8005 plus are $288. Plus is the way to go?

Hyd. rollers are hard on the valvetrain, especially springs. You want to go with a spring made from Super Clean Chrome Silicon. This material was developed to have the tensile strength of tool steel, but the longevity of Chrome Silicon which is what the OEM's use. It goes by trade names of Cyloy, Packaloy, Nicaloy, Nextec, Alpha Series, and some of the Tool Rooms are also. Yes it will cost more but due to the properties of the material it will last 2X as long as the original stuff. . .so it will pay for itself. You want about 140# to 155# on the seat with the OEM 3/8" stem heavy valves.

Isky "plus" are the premium spring. Cryo treated and endurance tested.
Make sure the 8005 is the correct one. I pulled that out of my butt.
If you are going for more than 132 # on the seat then the 8205 Plus is the sprring. They are 150# @ 1.900" That is the spring I use for hyd rolller but I am using the new Isky hyd roller lifter that allows higher seat pressures.
