Ok my 76 460 is apart and a cam selection is next.
Jet pump builders have told me to run a lunati with a 108 centerline and 290/300.
I called lunati and they don't know what I am talking about?
They agree about jet boats and specific cams, but they want all kinds of Info that I dont have.
    Any suggestions?

A 443 ford motorsport camshaft with Rhoads anti pumpup lifters wink ,save yourself from guessing.I've tried different camshafts and this cam works best with a jet for me .Buy it from any ford dealer that sells mustang cobras [ usually an SVO dealer] Feel free to e-mail me if you have more questions.

What they meant was search throught the Lunati cams on www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com and select something in the 290 to 300 advertised duration with a 108 deg centerline. Personally I think they are being over optimistic. If you are running anything mild, I would stay with something in the 270-280 advertised duration. A 290 to 300 advertised will be between 235 and 245 duration at .050" which is too much for a jetboat. I like the 108 to 110 lobe centers to prevent reversion if you are running O/T bassets or rewarders with water injection. Look for as much lift as possible while keeping the lobe center and duration that was aforementioned. Torque at low RPM is most important, unless your turning some high revs. I have had great luck with Clay Smith Cams in Buena Park, CA. George or his daughter can supply you with all you will need.

the a443 ca, is a good choice if you plan to have some head work done.If not i would try something a little smaller like a 230 @.50 cam and around a 530 to 550 lift on a 108 center.
My bbf 429 has an 11-1 comp i runa 248@.50 with a 590 lift and it is on the big side(non ported heads)but works decent but i think my last cam worked better overall and it was around a 235@.50 lift i cant remember but it to was on a 108 center.
What comp ratio are yo runnin also if is low a bigger cam wouldnt work as well comp, carb, intake ,exhaust, heads all have a factoe in the selection as well as the peak rpm you want and the impeller cut.
I tried experimenting and know what i now need.

I second what Ducky said about George at Clay Smith cams. I pulled out a Chet Herbert cam and installed one from Clay Smith in my 460.What an improvement with similar specs.

There are two things that a very important on camshaft selection. Top rpm and compression ratio. If you are running at 5,000 rpm you need a much different camshaft than if you run at 6,000 rpm. If you are running 8.5:1 or 10.5:1 compression ratio the cam will also be very different. Probably what you would want would be a 9.0:1 compression ratio with a maximum rpm of 5,000 rpm. You would need about 224 degrees of intake duration and about 230 degrees of exhaust duration @ .050 with a lobe separation angle of 110 or 112 degrees. The lift will probably need to be about .500 to.520 on the intake and about .520 to.540 on the exhaust. The intake lobe centerline should be four degrees advanced when installed. You will need to match some high performance springs to the camshaft. I would call Comp Cams and ask them for a suggestion on cam and valve springs.
    Good Luck
    Sincerely
