Thread: Casale Failure???

Took the V-drive apart, and this is what I found. Been together for two summers. Case ran cool at all times with Redline 70-90. Had noticed a little higher howl than usual toward the end of the season last year, was one of the reasons that it was taken apart, plus to change oil. Anyone have any idea what could have happened? Was set up with a .007 lash in the gears.

Flip those gears around so we can see the numbers that are stamped in them.
I'm just wondering how old they are. And like sangster said. Are they 12 degree gears in a 10 degree box?
They could be 30+ years old and one tooth just let go and took out the others.
I would put that in a box and ship it to V Drive Tom or Looking For Liquid (or someone like like them) to make it's set up correct.

Gears are 10 deg., cases are 10 deg.

Well those are no spring chickens. They were made in July of 1970. They lasted just a few months short of 34 years. Most outdrive gears that get some power socked to them don't even last one season.
