Thread: Valve Seals?

The guy putting my heads together at my local machine shop recommended not using any seals on the exhaust side valves on my blown 454. I'd never heard of this being done. Any thoughts out there? Good idea? Why or why not? Thanks....

Did you ask him why? Might be a good reason?

Some leave the seals off so the exhaust valve gets plenty of oil.
    Frequent driver? Go fast only?
Frequent driver - I put the seals on but remove the spring on the seal that goes around the valve.
Kind of splitting the difference. Less oil consumption that way.

Thanks for the feedback. This is a frequent driver, by the way...
Machine shop listed several reasons... blown marine application builds plenty of heat, I've got a good tight valve fit already, and the overlap on my cam set-up is not that great so I shouldn't get too much oil sucked past. Sound legit?
