Got a question or two....
this morning at Elsinore, got the boat in the water, backed it out, slowly, turned it around, went to the end of the no wake zone, Hit it and.......nothing, alot of exhaust noise and no jet. had a lot of bubbles but no propullsion, It was a little rough, not being in water for 2+ years, but fires right up. took it out inspected EVERYTHING, with help from other jet boaters and all looked great. Put it back in the water, hit it and i was gone....????????
1. is it possible to have a "vapor lock" type thing going on in the bell just behind the impeller?
2.Or was it the big ass dead carp i may have sucked up...j/k
i'm at a loss...but WTF its running now

I had a simular experience. Stopped in a cove, had a beer or 2 and went to leave, slipped bad, like a bad clutch in a car. Beached it and opened the inspection hole, and a little piece of wood floated out. Nothing else. Closed it up and wa la, ran fine.
Probably had a diaper stuck up in the intake and it fell out when you pulled the boat out of the water. Really I don't know, usually something like that I would think.
Sounds like you had air in the pump and I think it's more predominant if you have a droop. You may want to consider one of these from Duane at Hi Tech Performance (http://www.hi-techperformance.com/)

I always make sure my reverse bucket is fully open while I'm backing in, even though I've never had a problem.

air in the pump was my thought when there was no foriegn bodies in the intake...thanks
I sucked up a 12 inch piece of twine once and it did the same thing.
I like the reverse bucket thing, makes good sense.
Air in the pump is fairly common just after launching. It usually woks it's way out in a few moments.
Since you idled out, I would suspect that you sucked up something into the pump which dispupted the waterflow.
one time we had the same thing happen it turned out to be a chunk of someones old towel sucked up to the grate I shut off the motor ,restarted and it fell off this sort of thing used to happen allot on my jet skiwith weeds or stuf just turn off the engine for a minute to let whatever sucked up to the grate fall off.

Yep, I had a piece get stuck in the impeller once that acted like that
