Thread: crazy tachometer

    gmocnik
    before i go yanking out parts...any ideas???
    540 cid bbc with a b&m 250, msd distributer and 6AL ignition..faria tach..
    everything runs great...last weekend tach seems to have a mind of it's own...
    is it the tach or indication of something else going south???

    gmocnick, sorry bud the faria is a mediocre make,so it's time to get Gaffrig,VDO,StewartWarner....etc

    I had the same problem and it was a bad plug wire. It would make the tach jump around very eraticaly. The only thing I could figure is was sending some kind of pulse back through the ground but who knows. Mine was a Mallory tach with a Unilite distributor so it might not be your problem but its worth a try. Hope it helps.
