    I am going to keep an eye out for a replacement motor for my Spectra 18 [1976 460 berk. JE ]. What is the best year BBF to look for and what cars did they come in ? I dont want to build a super hypo motor I would like to find an old stock factory performance motor , rebuild it and leave it pretty stock . thanks RH

    I would say buy a early version 1969 through 71
    doesn't really matter what it was in but earlier years have heavier nickal content which makes the block stronger. also you can get a 429 and a 460 the only major difference is the crank size.

    S.O. What years were the 429's produced ? I assume large 4 doors , station wagons , ect. I guess lincoln's , fords and merc's ?

    429s were produced from 1968 thru 1974 in Fords, T-Birds and most Mercs. Only the Lincoln are you assured of finding a 460.

    RH, since the MarkIII Lincolns are considered to be collectors and hard to find in the wreckyards,I would try to find a 68 suicide door T-bird with the 429 engine.I think there are still a lot of Birds decaying all over ,since they aren't as popular for collectors .

    Here are the numbers of my current motor and heads
    Heads = D3VE-A2A / 1973 Lincoln
    Block = D1VE-6015-A2B / 1971 Lincoln
    I am not sure on the heads what the A2A means or on the block what the 6015-A2B stands for . RH

    Try to find a 68 to71 lincoln 460, 500 ft-lbs of torque right from ford, 10.25 to 1 there are a ton of them around, I could have had a complete car for 700.00 but didn't need it at the time.
