Hey I need a oil change in my Mec 496 mag before OP6. This is my first summer in Havasu, do I need to put a heavier weight oil in because of the summer time air temp???... I dont want to go to the local boat shop and pay over $5.00 a quart... Any suggestions??? See you all Sat...

There was a lot of discussion about this over the winter months. Try a search in the Outdrive section. If your engine is still under the manufacturers warranty, I would stick to the straight 40w oil Mercruiser recommends.
My warranty just finished, so I went to a full synthetic oil. I noticed an improvement with engine noise reduction and my oil pressure is more consistent.
Good luck, see you at OP6C

I use Kendall 40 WT Racing Oil and boat almost exclusively in LHC. Seems to work okay so far. Others I know use Amsoil synthetics as well as Mobil 1.

That motor calls for the Merc 25W-40 oil. Its not a multi grade but two stocks blended
