Thread: Valentine Radar Detectors

My wife bought one of these for me for Christmas and lemme tell ya', this thing rocks. Not only does it pick up radar from the front, it also has a sensor that picks up radar from behind.
Last time we left Parker to head home on Rice Road, just past Vidal Junction, the detector went nuts, I slowed down, and about a mile and half up the road was a San Berdo Sheriff sitting way off the road behind some big bushes and scrub. If the detector hadn't gone off, I would have been popped.
Another time just past Chiriaco Summit, the detecor went off, so I slowed down from 85 to 70, the signal strength slowly got stronger and stronger, I couldn't see anything in front of me or behind me. The guy behind me got impatient and blasted past me and out pops out a CHP back about 4 cars back and nails this guy. I feel the hefty price of $400 has already been repaid in fines and frustration I would have had.
Just passing on some good 411.

I have a 9 band Cobra unit. It works well and has saved me some agony several times. I have it powered by my day-night mirror so it's mounted up high, almost completely between the mirror and the windshield. Very low profile.

A friend has one and loves it on his trips between Dallas and Houston.
He jokingly tells me that it lets him know when a cop is 4 miles up the road at Shiplys dipping his donut in his coffee.

The BCT-12 is a good unit. the highway Patroll alarm picks up whats called the mobile extender frequency it's the radio repeater in the patroll cars that extend the range of the hand held radios.
theres always pros and cons with everything .
pros being they don't have to be running radar to receive activity. and longer range than radar.
cons- not all states use them and it's illegal in some states to run a scanner in your vehicle which could result to more trouble than the ticket you're trying to avoid . just a heads up for ya .
oh yes , the Valentine is the shiznit
heres a website in case youre interested

I have one of those too. All band radar and "laser". It has saved my ass many times. It saved my butt on the highway from Baker to Sheridan while on my way to Pahrump to visit my son and his family. Wide open road and whadda you know... there's a CHP. I got plenty of warning fortunately.
The only time it won't do you much good is with radar guns if they haven't used it just before you get there. I was in Los Alamitos the other day and bang 0 to full signal for just a second. Fortunately I wasn't going over the speed limit by much so I slowed down immediately.

Heres a little info about radars and detectors.
Radar is accurate at approximately 1/2 to 3/4 miles depending on line of sight. Radar detectors can "hear" approximately 5 miles, again depending on line of sight. Its similar to a gun shot from a rifle. The bullet (.22) can only travel about a mile and a half, but you can hear the blast miles away.

I have had one a year and a half. No tickets!!!!!
Yea you have to be careful if there are no other vehicles on the road, b/c they have to turn the radar on for it to work.
I got a BS ticket from a chickenshit trooper and ordered one the next day. No regrets!!!!!
Over hills, around curves, best I have ever seen! This same guy (Valentine) developed the Escort for Cincinnati Microwave decades ago, left them and started his own company (from what I understand).
One of the best parts is you can send it in to have it "tuned up" every couple of years!

So somebody has to tell me.....what's the difference between a speeder using a radar detector to dodge a ticket and a bank robber spray painting a security camera to get away? Nothing. Radar detectors are for idiots who don't know how to drive, IMO. If you wanna speed ,fine. If you get caught, stand up like a man and pay the price. Only cowards use devices like these to hide illegal activity.
