Anyone ever think it's what the customer wanted? Tweed, or any other material, is a lot less than paint work , too... Time may have been an issue as well... Takes a lot more time to paint prep than to hide flaws aith upholstery.
Totally custom work is not cost effective for a shop. break even if your lucky. It's good advertising, though...

Not entirely true I know some shops that make good $$ on custom work

I guess it depends on how you look at it. Fact remains that you'd make more money doing more basic installs using unit/4's/amp(s)/sub during the same amount of time as a 3 - 6 week custom job... In that sense, it's a loss.
