next question, last couple of days Ive had a grinding almost gear whine sound coming from the pump is this the front bearing or the rear or both its worse under a lite load around 25-30 mph or so it has gotten pretty bad on my ride home today , tell me its an easy fix please, also my oil in the bowl goes down pretty quick I plan a rebuild on the pump over the winter but Id like a temporary fix.

Hey Sign, check the endplay of the shaft. I had a snapring come off and screwed up the bearing, shaft, and impeller. As for the oil level, just fill it up after each day at the lake.

I tried what you guys said and theres no endplay or no slop up and down I undid the u joint and spin it buy hand and it seems pretty noisy near the front bearing I pulled the cap and it looks as if the whole pump must come apart or is there a way to get that bearing out without removing the pump

signmaster could it be the U joint? Mine made whining & clunking sounds just before it failed. Lucky I have a drive line guard.

Signmaster, if you have a JC or JG pump, you need to remove the pump. It is not a difficult task, just a bunch of nuts and bolts. Take the suction housing and bowl to the work bench for servicing.
If you have a JE or JF pump(also called "insert" pumps) you will need to remove the engine to service the pump shaft and bearing, as the shaft comes out the front of the pump with the bearing. With these pumps you leave the entire suction housing in the hull during service.
If you are planning to do any of this work yourself, I highly recommend getting a copy of the "Seloc Marine Jet Drive" manual. Should be able to get it from a good boat shop or from CP Performance (http://www.cpperformance.com) or RexMarine (http://www.rexmar.com)

Same problem I had this weekend. The noise would come and go.. Well,,, we kept running it becuase the noise subsided, by what we found when we pulled the bowl off was bad... How much, if any, noise does a good pump make?
