Thread: Valve Cover Suggestons

Hi to all, need some suggestions on new valve covers. I picked up a set of ball milled aluminum valve covers for BBC. I set up an external breather and will tap and install A/N fitting to run the SS lines from the covers to the breather. As you can see in the picture, the covers came with a large fill/breather hole that is untapped. I would like to retain this for filling purposes but have not been able to fing a plug for this or should I try to tap it out and use a screw in cap? Toss me some ideas. Sorry NUBSS, I had to do some mods! I will post some pics of the other stuff I have done as soon as I get these on. Thanks in advance.

Those are designed to use a rubber grommet and push-in style breather or oil cap. They weren't intended to be threaded. Too thin. You could have threaded bungs welded on, but then you would need to re-polish.

is it just me, or does one valve cover seem taller than the other?

You can buy the push in oil caps from Summit, Jegs, etc. I think CP Performance has them as well.

Looks like a good spot to install a -12 weld bung. Take off the fitting and put in the oil. Keep the covers nice and clean with out the extra fill hole.

That's a cool piece Taylorman. Is it two pices that screw together and doesn't require welding?
Too bad it isn't a breather too. I still use a PCV but would love to ditch my pushin breathers.

It bolts into the valve cover. They also make crankcase evac system that i just bought. Here is a picture. It has the check valve built into the breather instead of it being screwed onto the header. They are really nice.
