Rice Road and its death toll has been brought up here on numerous occasions. With the frequency of mentions, you'd think that Rice is a major road linking you to and from the river. Is this just a road, or is there a designated highway number, county number, state route, US route number for this? Someone needs to post pics of this road on here. For those that don't travel it, really don't have a friggin clue as what you're talking about. Does the road offer no shoulder? Is this all Indian owned land? Funding is available for roads and improvement in most cases. I'm sure the county has noticed that amount of accidents in that area. A wider shoulder could be added, but in reality, nobody that travels it takes the time to complain on a regular basis. They would rather bitch about it while driving it or when something bad happens like when the officer and nephew show up in the news. If its just a summer road, chances are, you won't get a nice shoulder running the length of the road, but you could ask for a series of some really nice turn outs and pull offs. So you might lose a rim if you have to drive an extra mile on a flat tire, but it beats getting stuck in the sand, getting killed and never making it home. After doing some reading, it saves all of 15 minutes, rather than going through a town? I know everone is beat after a great weekend out on the water, but for 15 minutes? I also know that this road probably handles a hell of a lot of traffic, and less than 1% are involved in an accident, and less that 1% of those accidents results in death.
