A man was killed by a freight train in Compton Monday when he tried to run from the scene of a traffic collision, a sheriff's sergeant said.
The man was killed about 6:45 a.m. by a train operating in the Alameda Corridor at Alameda Street and Greenleaf Boulevard, sheriff's Sgt. Byron Woods of the Compton Station said.
The man's name was withheld pending notification of his relatives.
He apparently had been driving a vehicle that was involved in a collision, Woods said.
He ran across one set of tracks and jumped to a lower level of tracks, where the train hit him, Woods said.
