either is better than stock iron. O4b is better with cam and head work, but I prefer it for everything. Hard to find but worth it. TIMINATOR
What is the difference between the old Edelbrock 04B intake and the Edelbrock Performer? Which is better for a "close to stock" low (<5k) RPM motor? Will either one give any increase in performance over the stock iron intake?

I don't know if it translates directly to Olds engines, but I put a P4B on my 455 Pontiac years ago. A few guys convinced me that newer must be better so I put a performer on it. I couldn't tell a bit of difference except I had to fatten up the secondaries by one jet size.
I'd say (at least as far as my Pontiac experience goes) that its a total wash. Do the cheaper one, or the one that fits better... or whatever. I don't think you'll notice more than 1 mph difference between the two.

I agree I had a buddy that switched to one and by far it was the best! Like tim said they are hard to get.....
