Yeah, we got it pretty rough, here, I'll say that. :notam:
Get real, Rio.
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaa, paging steel, time for your kool aid.
It's not a bad idea, but then again, either is socialism...on paper. Unfortunately, it would take generations to pull it off, and by then, I don't think the American, spoiled rotten, instant gratification mindset would be able to stay the course. There would be a period of sacrafice as we made the transition, and this country isn't about sacrafice any more. It's about self.
Socialism is not even the same idea and on its own is a very bad idea. Socialism would change the entire structure of the government and do away with capitolism. Socialism is a vary bad idea and it puts the governemnt in a place I would rather not see it and destroy any creativity left in the USA. I have a big problem with wealth redistribution, but i guess you could argue we are close to that now.

What a looser. LOL.
The biggest flaw about a democracy is the fact that the people in power have the ability to vote themselves a raise. Once they figured that out, it was only a matter of time.
The founders were aware of that fact. That is why they put our system of checks and balances in place. It is the nature of the Legislative Branch to try to buy votes in their districts using public largess. That is why the Executive Branch represents the whole nation and the President has his veto pen. It is up to the President to use that pen when he is givin a bill that is full of "pork", that has been put there by legislators, who are trying to "bring home the bacon" to their constituants.
I have to confess it is getting harder and harder for me to go along with this world economy crap. If the USA went into isolation type government what would we be called then. Right now everyone is pissed because we are medeling in other countries affairs and they bitch (until they need us then were daddy), so what do you think would happen if we did this?
ban or put high terrifs on all imports.
This idea was by far the greatest single governmental cause, since the treaty of Versailles, of the great depression. It was also a major factor in the rise of Fascism and the lead up to WWII.
One of the things that created the post WWII economic boom, that allowed Europe to recover and the U.S. to emerge an economic superpower, was the elimination of the restrictive tarrif and trade policies of the post WWI era, that had previously destroyed the worlds economy. It is a mistake we must never let ourselves be tempted to make again, no matter how superficially appealing the idea may seem at the time. Unfortunatly it is one of several lessons of that era, that we seem to have forgotten as time has gone by.

Our founding fathers were incredibly insightful. I love to read writings by Lincoln. Communication in those days, among scholars, was an art. Their understanding of the written and spoken language, to convey a thought...a feeling...an emotion, or an intention, was remarkable.

Well put.
I'm OK with helping out the rest of the world somewhat.
It's the Christian thing to do, no?
We're able to, and noblesse oblige.
As far as being "controlled by oil companies", they are public entities.
I own stock in them, as should you. Most banks are public, too.
The longing for a time that no longer exists (and never really did) is juvenile.
The global social and economic communities are fluid, dynamic entities, constantly evolving.
It's human nature.
I think there are two types of people.
Those who understand the system and use it to their benefit, and those that try to fight the system and end up being crushed by it. Good luck with that.
Thanks
