Thread: More China

Currently the GDP of world leaders is:
US 5% world population 28% of world GDP
European Union 8% world population 31% world GDP
China and India- 40% world population with China 5% GDP and India 2% GDP for a 2orld GDP of 7% combined
I read speculations that India and China combined will surpass the US and European Union combined by 2040 but it would completely blow away historical growth figures.
It's hard to fathom how China could be such a military threat in light of their economic goals. They need the US far more as a consumer of goods to stimulate their growth than as a military enemy.
Also General Motors saw a 35% sales growth in China last year with 650K vehicles sold. US based companies are doing quite well in China. China is Chevrolet's 4th largest global market. GM earned 176 Mil in 4th Qtr '06 while losing 1.6 Bil in NA. GM is looking to sell 225K units in India and pushing for more development in India.
My points are we are expanding into these economies for our own growth and at the same time need to look at why we can make money over there and not back at home. Once again if we allow the politcal machine of Liberal preference to Socialism and restrictions on business through taxes and unnecesary legislation, we will hurt our economic grow the within our borders. Jobs leave not because of actual wages but because of the cost of employing workers with all the additional baggage. Socialized medicine and retirement packages have to be funded somewhere and the general populace isn't looking at how the tax dollars are being collected. Assuming they aren't coming out of a direct paycheck deduction doesn't mean you aren't paying for it in the end. The more labor unions and the federal government get involved in how business is conducted, the more our internal economy will suffer.
Those that want Hillary or Obama in office better wake up to the fact they could be changing the economic future for the worse.
    Good post.
The bizzare brand of neo corporatism/socialism, that the Dems are currently peddeling, would be playing right into China's hand, if there goal is to someday outperform us economically.

yea, what he said. We've allowed our gov't to legislate us out of jobs! Can't lose a finger cashing a welfare check! Might get shot for it!
For the record, China and India had world dominating economies prior to the industrial revolution.

I recently purchsed something and noticed after I made it home its label was "Hecho in China". I try and look at them now as much as possible. That just pissed me off.

If you can, buy a good used 2 cycle lawn mower. Then at least you will have a shot at income.
