Piece of cake with a JE. Drop steering and revese cable off. Pull at least one oil plug. Remove bowl bolts. Slide bowl off shaft and have a bucket ready to dump oil into. Good time to look over bowl bushings and seal too.
Bowl gasket needs to be replaced on my 12JE. Is it hard to replace? Any special tools needed? Anything else I should replace while I'm in there?

Yup, should be easy!!
Would I want to just replace the bowl bushings and seal while I've got it apart? Bowl gasket sounds easy, how about the bushings and seal?
I know this is a dumb question but, do I put any type of sealant on the gasket before in stalling or nothing? I use gear lube, 90 wt? How much lube? How long should this take me?
Bowl gasket goes on dry, no sealant. Some use a release agent, so they can access the impeller quickly, and reuse the gasket. Bowl holds a pint or so of gear oil. Remove both plugs, and fill it full.
